Lusitano brand ® - Portuguese tack
To provide quality Portuguese horse tack made in Portugal, Portugal Web has created the Lusitano brand trademark. There is a particular focus on quality Portuguese craftmanship based on its long tradition making Portuguese saddles, bridles and other horse tack. The main reason for this is that since the foundation of Portugal there has been a solid equestrian tradition not just in horse riding but also in the horse tack in use including Portuguese saddles and bridles.
The Lusitano brand traditional Portuguese saddle model is made in a similar way to the Portuguese saddle from the XVII-XVIII centuries so its also a Baroque saddle model. The other traditional Portuguese saddle model: the "Relvas" saddle follows the same pinciple in craftmanship. However, the Lusitano brand aims not only to do the Portuguese saddles and Portuguese horse tack in the same way that has been done for centuries but also to bring innovation on saddle-making. Therefore, innovation is brought by new saddle models developed having in mind new saddle requirements and Portuguese traditional saddle design those models are "Ribatejo" saddle, "D. Dinis" saddle and "D. Domingues" saddle. Innovation also takes part when making the traditional saddle models: for instance the tree saddle can be done in maritime plywood with the advantages of increased resistance and flexibility. Although Portuguese horse tack as evolved around the Lusitano horse, the use of the Lusitano brand horse equipment can be extended to other horse breeds and in particular to other Baroque horse breeds.
Following what was said to the saddles the Lusitano brand Portuguese bridles such as the Portuguese bridle or the Baroque bridle are made in a very similar way to the XVIII century bridle models. These bridles are handmade and most of the materials are the same as the ones used at the time. Innovation on bridles-making has also developed combined models such as the combined Portuguese-English bridle and the combined Portuguese-German bridle.
All the remaining Portuguese tack including: Portuguese stirrups, Portuguese halters, Portuguese breastplates, Portuguese cavessons for shows or for lunging and a Portuguese leather girth are also avaliable from the Lusitano brand.
